Hooks stifle Naturals’ offense

Kent Emanuel held Northwest Arkansas to 1 run on 4 hits over 5 innings, and the Corpus Christi Hooks defeated the Naturals 4-2 Friday night at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi.

Nick Tanielu, Conrad Gregor and Teoscar Herandez had two hits apiece in the Hooks’ 11-hit attack.

Logan Moon starred for the Naturals, going 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and 2 runs scored. Alec Mills picked up the loss despite pitching 6 innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 9 hits, 2 walks and 3 strikeouts for the Naturals.

TRAVELERS 7, MISSIONS 1

Cal Towey and Eric Aguilera each had three hits, and the Arkansas Travelers scored the final seven runs to top the San Antonio Missions 7-1 Friday night at Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium in San Antonio.

After the Missions took the lead in the first, the Travs responded with two runs in the second. Bo Way’s single to right-center field scored Andrew Daniel and sent Jose Briceno to third. After Anthony Phillips popped up for the second out, the Travs executed a double steal, with Briceno taking home and Way stealing second.

Towey hit a ground-rule double to open the third inning, and Aguilera doubled him home for a 3-1 lead. Jabari Henry drove in Aguilera with a single for a 4-1 lead.

Jordan Kipper (5-2) pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing 1 run on 5 hits and 2 walks while striking out 3 for the Travs.

Towey scored three runs and raised his season batting average to .301 with a 3-for-3 performance. Aguilera finished 3 for 5 and drove in two.
