The Art of Travel

Public Lecture

Hilliard Speech Showcase
CONWAY — The annual Hilliard Speech Showcase will take place at 6 p.m. in Room 100 of the University of Central Arkansas College of Business. The event, created to honor the memory of Olive Hilliard, a professor at UCA from 2003 until her death in 2010, showcases outstanding students from Principles of Communication classes. Fall Book Sale
CONWAY — The Friends of the Libraries’ annual fall book sale will take place at the Faulkner County Library, 1900 Tyler St. The Friday sale, from 6-8:30 p.m., is for members of the Friends, but memberships will be available at the door for as little as $5. The sale will be open to the public from
9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The sale will feature a selection of fiction and nonfiction books for all ages, VHS and DVD movies, and other DVD items and CDs. Hardbacks and children’s books will sell for 50 cents per pound. Paperbacks will be $3 for a grocery bag full (bags will be provided). Items may also be purchased individually. Proceeds from the sale will support the programs and services of the Faulkner County Libraries.
Plumerville Homecoming
PLUMERVILLE — All Plumerville residents, former residents and graduates and former students of the Plumerville School are invited to the 2016 Homecoming and Reunion. There will be a chili supper at 5 p.m. Friday at the Plumerville Fire Department, and the public is invited. Saturday will feature a pancake breakfast at 7 a.m., and hamburgers, drinks, chips and desserts at noon for $7 per meal. Pictures and memorabilia will be displayed in the Community Room on Friday night and Saturday. Leslie Mountain Man Rendezvous
LESLIE — The fifth annual Leslie Mountain Man Rendezvous will take place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday in downtown Leslie. The free event will feature pre-1840 history coming alive, as well as vendors. Public, private and home schools are invited to attend Friday. Walk to Remember
CONWAY — The ninth annual Walk to Remember — a free event to help families remember babies lost at any stage of pregnancy through the first year of life — will take place at Conway High School’s John McConnell Stadium. Registration will open at 10 a.m., and the program will begin at 11 a.m. The event will include memorial balloon and butterfly releases, testimonials and a reading of names of babies who have died. Lunch & Learn Program
MORRILTON — The year-long Conway County Library Centennial Celebration will draw to a close with a Lunch & Learn program at noon. The General Federation of Women’s Clubs Pathfinders will sponsor the program, which will feature Linda Green, Janna Virden and Sandy Davies, who will present a history of the library. RUSSELLVILLE — Paul Andrew Hutton, professor of history at the University of New Mexico, will be the guest speaker for the sixth annual David W. Krueger Lecture at Arkansas Tech University.
