HOT SPRINGS -- Hot Springs put it together Friday night at Reese Memorial Stadium.

The Trojans (2-5 overall, 2-2 5A-Southwest) came off a near-miss at De Queen after stopping an 0-4 slide against winless Hope.

Magnolia (2-5 overall, 0-3), was coming off a 45-24 home victory over Camden Fairview.

Hot Springs overcame an early Magnolia touchdown for a 15-7 halftime lead, then added 10 points in the third quarter.

Kenny Byrd's 40-yard touchdown run gave the Trojans a 25-7 lead after Erick Guadron connected on his first of two field goals, from 41 yards, with 4:33 left in the third quarter.

Guadron, one of the state's top soccer players, completed the scoring with a 28-yard field goal with 2:37 left to play.

Sophomore quarterback Chris Stewart scored on a 1-yard run with six minutes left in the second quarter, following Trayvon Gordon's 46-yard run.

Gordon ran across the two-point conversion for an 8-7 Hot Springs lead after Magnolia was penalized on the extra-point attempt.

Stewart's 43-yard touchdown pass to Nehemiah Dangerfield and Guadron's extra point made it 15-7 with 2:01 left in the half. Guadron later missed a 44-yard field goal after a Dangerfield interception.

Magnolia went up 7-0 on Kadyn Roach's 76-yard touchdown run and Cruz Guzman's extra point with 9:31 to play in the first quarter. The Panthers pulled within 25-13 at 10:37 of the fourth quarter as Parker Ribble, scrambling out of the pocket, found Andre Ewell from 5 yards out.
