Late first-half scores key Western Michigan

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Zach Terrell threw for 398 yards and three touchdowns and No. 20 Western Michigan had 569 yards of total offense in a 45-31 victory over Eastern Michigan on Saturday.

Carrington Thompson had 8 catches for 177 yards and 2 touchdowns, and Jarvion Franklin ran for 114 yards and a touchdown for the Broncos (8-0, 4-0). The game was the first at home as a nationally ranked team in school history.

Eastern Michigan (5-3, 2-2) capitalized on two turnovers to take a 17-14 lead with 3:35 left in the first half, the first time the Broncos have trailed at Waldo Stadium this season.

Western Michigan answered with two scoring drives in the final minutes, aided by Obbie Jackson's interception. Terrell made it 31-17 when he hit Thompson for an 8-yard touchdown pass on the Broncos' first possession of the third quarter.

Terrell's 31-yard touchdown pass to Corey late in the third quarter pushed the Broncos past the 40-point mark for the fifth consecutive game. Davis had five receptions for 87 yards.

Eastern Michigan's Brogan Roback threw for 334 yards and a touchdown and ran for another score.

In other games involving Mid-American Conference teams, Logan Woodside and receiver Cody Thompson connected 7 times for 122 yards and 4 touchdowns to help host Toledo beat Central Michigan 31-17. Woodside went 23 of 32 for 264 yards and four touchdowns for Toledo (6-1, 3-0). Cooper Rush was 18-of-31 passing for 229 yards for Central Michigan (5-3, 2-2). ... Thomas Woodson passed for 338 yards and ended a crucial late-game drive with three consecutive completions, including an insurance touchdown, as Akron rallied past Ball State 35-25 in Muncie, Ind. The victory keeps the Zips (5-3, 3-1) tied with Ohio atop the East Division. ... Dorian Brown and Maleek Irons each rushed for one touchdown and Ohio gained 208 yards on the ground in a 14-10 victory over host Kent State. Brown carried it 12 times for 110 yards and Irons added 83 yards for Ohio (5-3, 3-1). Nick Holley was just 12 of 29 for 101 yards for Kent State (2-6, 1-3).
