A preacher and a musical family perform traditional and bluegrass gospel songs and share stories and beliefs at a North Carolina Baptist church in economically depressed 1938 in Smoke on the Mountain (written by Connie Ray, conceived by Alan Bailey, with musical arrangements by Mike Craver and Mark Hardwick). The show runs through Oct. 8 at Murry's Dinner Playhouse, 6323 Colonel Glenn Road, Little Rock. Curtain is 7:30 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday (except 12:45 p.m. Wednesday matinees, not evening shows, Sept. 7 and 14), 12:30 and 6:30 p.m. Sunday. "War-Toys: Israel, West Bank and Gaza Strip," 18 reproductions of children's drawings alongside photographs by Brian McCarty that provide insight into the experiences of Palestinian and Israeli children, goes on display today in Gallery I, Fine Arts Building, University of Arkansas at Little Rock, 2801 S. University Ave., Little Rock. The exhibition will remain up through Oct. 20. McCarty will give a talk at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 21 in conjunction with a reception, part of Arkansas Peace Week, in observance of the United Nation's International Day of Peace. Admission is free. Horses and mules carry on a Clinton tradition with the 31st annual National Championship Chuckwagon Races. Events are already underway at the Bar of Ranch outside Clinton, but activities, including clinics, rides, barrel races, concerts, kids' rodeo and the famous chuckwagon races, continue today-Sunday. The Ozark Folk Center State Park celebrates an old-time country musician with the 18th annual Grandpa Jones Tribute, today-Saturday. The weekend's activities include banjo workshops and contests, a "Remembering Grandpa and Ramona" session with the Jones family and evening concerts with the Jones Family Band and others, including Doyle Dykes, David Holt and Josh Goforth. Cherry Street in downtown Helena-West Helena turns blue for the fifth annual Legendary Blues Fest, Saturday. 8 SPA CITY SOUNDS

The Hot Springs Jazz Fest, through Sunday at various locations around Hot Springs, includes a Classical & Jazz Blow Out with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra's Brass Quintet and the Anything That Moves jazz group on Friday, Jazz in the Streets on Saturday and a dance with the Stardust Big Band on Sunday. It's not all jazz in Hot Springs this weekend. Downtown's Hill Wheatley Plaza hosts the annual Hot Springs Blues Festival, Saturday-Sunday. The gates will open at 3 p.m. and shows start at 4 each day. This year's lineup includes CeDell Davis with Brethren, Barbara Blue and Delgado Brothers.
