Police: Wrong-way crash on Arkansas interstate kills driver

An Arkansas man died in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 540 Thursday night, authorities said.

Beningno Buenrostro, 75, of Fort Smith was driving a 1992 Toyota north in the southbound lanes of the interstate north of Kelley Highway in Fort Smith, according to an Arkansas State Police report.

Police say the Toyota first collided with an oncoming Chevrolet and then was hit by a second southbound vehicle. It happened shortly before 9 p.m.

Buenrostro suffered fatal injuries. No one else was said to be hurt.

The report did not detail why the vehicle may have been traveling the wrong direction. Conditions at the time were listed as clear.

The death was the 362nd fatality on Arkansas roads so far in 2016, according to preliminary figures.
