Crashes in state leave 2 dead

Two people died in separate crashes Thursday, according to preliminary reports from the Arkansas State Police.

A Bentonville woman died in a three-vehicle crash involving a semi on U.S. 65 in Chicot County, according to a state police report.

Cindy Lea McCurry, 64, was driving north about 4:10 p.m. Thursday when a southbound 2004 Freightliner hit her vehicle in the northbound lane, police said. The Freightliner then hit a northbound 2015 GMC Sierra, police said.

McCurry was pronounced dead at the scene, and Freightliner driver Warren Johnson, 51, of Eudora was injured in the crash, police said.

Police said the weather was rainy and the road was wet at the time of the crash.

A Thursday night crash in Sebastian County killed a 75-year-old man who was driving the wrong way on Interstate 540, according to a state police report.

Beningno Buenrostro of Fort Smith was driving north in the southbound lanes of I-540 about 8:50 p.m. when he hit a 2014 Chevrolet going south, state police said. Then, a 1999 Ford going south hit Buenrostro's 1992 Toyota, police said.

Buenrostro died in the crash, according to the report.

Weather and road conditions were clear at the time of the crash, police said.
