Forrest City posts 1st shutout since 2014 season

FORREST CITY -- Paced by the speed of senior tailback Kendriel Johnson, the hard-nosed running of junior Deviuta Foster and the passing of sophomore quarterback Randal Moore, the Forrest City Mustangs shut out the visiting Pine Bluff Dollarway Cardinals 30-0 Friday in a nonconference game at Sam Smith Stadium.

Behind a first-half offensive surge, Forrest City led 22-0 at halftime.

The defense took over in the second half to preserve the Mustangs first shutout since a 20-0 victory over Valley View during the 2014 season.

It took just nine plays and less than five minutes for the Mustangs to take the lead on a 5-yard touchdown pass from Moore to senior receiver Trajan Norment, covering 64 yards. Moore's pass to A.J. Wilson added the two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead.

Johnson's 55-yard touchdown run with 25 seconds left in the first quarter and the two-point conversion run made it 16-0.

Forrest City had two long touchdowns called back in the second quarter due to penalties, but the Mustangs shook off the calls to make it 22-0 on an 8-yard pass from Moore to Wilson with 3:57 to play in the first half. The two-point run failed.

Forrest City fumbled at the goal line and Dollarway recovered with 10 seconds left in the half to remain down 22-0.

The Mustangs (1-1) had their third touchdown of the game called back in the third quarter, but they recovered to make it 30-0 when Norment outjumped two Dollarway defenders for a 36-yard touchdown pass from Moore with 4:50 left in the third. Johnson's two-point conversion run provided the final points of the game.

Neither team scored in the fourth quarter, and the Mustangs weathered a dropped pass in the end zone and a roughing the kicker penalty to keep the Cardinals off the scoreboard.

With Friday's loss, Dollarway slips to 0-2 after losing to Watson Chapel in last week's opener 42-22.

Forrest City will host Helena-West Helena on Friday in the school's annual Hall of Fame Game.
