Sitar and sax

The Sangeet Millennium Ensemble, fusing North Indian music on the sitar with saxophone, Indian tabla drums and often bass and Indian vocals, kicks off the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Artspree season, 3 p.m. today in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall, Fine Arts Building, UALR, 2801 S. Spanish Brass

Spanish Brass -- Carlos Beneto and Juanjo Serna, trumpet; Manuel Perez, French horn; Inda Bonet, trombone; and Sergio Finca, tuba -- will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Donald W. Reynolds Performance Hall at the University of Central Arkansas, 201 Donaghey Ave., Conway, part of a two-day residency at the university.

Admission is free. A 6:30 p.m. Spanish Culture Fair, highlighting the different regions of Spain and staffed by UCA Spanish-language students, will precede the concert in the lobby.

The program will include Arrebato by Albert Guinovart; Pentabrass by Ramon Cardo; De Cai by Pascual Piqueras; and brass quintet arrangements of the Prelude and Fugue in c minor, BWV 549, by Johann Sebastian Bach; the Overture to La Forza del Destino by Giuseppe Verdi; Seguidillas by Tomas Bretin; Asturias by Isaac Albeniz; Andaluza by Enrico Granados; Intermedio (La Boda de Luis Alonso) by Geronimo Gimenez; and The Sidewinder by Lee Morgan.

Fiddling sisters

The Quebe Sisters -- fiddler/singer sisters Hulda, Sophia and Grace Quebe -- will perform Western swing, vintage country and traditional Texas-style music at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Blue Lion at UAFS Downtown, 101 N. Symphony season

The Conway Symphony Orchestra will accompany the Lantern Theatre's shadow-puppet performances of The Halloween Tree, based on the Ray Bradbury novella, 8 p.m. Oct. 7-8, in McCastlain Hall at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway. The orchestra will also play for a pay-what-you-can reprise, 7:30 p.m. Oct. 27, at Ron Robinson Theater, 100 River Market Ave., Little Rock, to benefit El Zocalo Immigrant Services.

Village season

The Hot Springs Village Concerts Association opens its 25th anniversary season with Artrageous, a musical ensemble that performs while drawing huge pictures, 7:30 p.m. Wednesday-Friday in Woodlands Auditorium, Ponce De Leon Center, 1101 DeSoto Blvd., Hot Springs Village.

The Arkansas Arts Council is accepting applications for Arts in Education and Arts for Lifelong Learning "mini grants," which provide funding for residency programs for up to 10 days at pre-K-12 schools and community organizations between Oct. 1 and Aug. 31.
