ASU’s Mohajir, coaches get raises, extensions

Arkansas State Athletic Director Terry Mohajir and football Coach Blake Anderson were two of several at ASU to have contract extensions and raises finalized during Friday’s board of trustees meeting. Mohajir received a one-year contract extension and a raise to $305,000 per year, according to the board of trustees meeting minutes. It went into effect July 1. Anderson, who is 16-14 in his third season at ASU, received a two-year contract extension through Jan. 31, 2020. His salary stayed at $700,000. Anderson’s new contract began Feb. 1. Defensive coordinator Joe Cauthen received a raise to $210,000 per year. His two-year contract through 2018 began March 15. Women’s basketball Coach Brian Boyer received a two-year extension through 2019 with a $200,000 per year salary. Boyer, 299-229 in 17 seasons, has led the Red Wolves to the WNIT in each of the past three seasons. Track and field and cross country Coach Jim Patchell received a new threeyear contract through June 30, 2019, worth $72,000 per year.

El Dorado Shootout starts Friday

The Symetra Tour’s Murphy USA El Dorado Shootout begins Friday and runs through Sunday at Mystic Creek Golf Club in El Dorado. It will be the second year in a row Mystic Creek has hosted the tournament, which features a 120-player field competing for a $100,000 purse, with $15,000 going to the winner. Jackie Stoeltling of Vero Beach, Fla., won last year’s inaugural event with a three-stroke victory over former Mississippi State standout Ally McDonald. Hendrix men lose to Birmingham-Southern

Hendrix men lost 3-0 to Birmingham-Southern College in Birmingham, Ala., on Saturday. Birmingham-Southern (6-1, 1-0 Southern Athletic Association) outshot Hendrix 28-10 overall, including 11-3 in shots on goal. Birmingham-Southern had a 7-5 edge in corner kicks. Hendrix (2-6, 0-1) hosts University of the Ozarks at 6 p.m. Monday.

Hendrix women fall at Birmingham-Southern

Hendrix women lost its Southern Athletic Association opener 2-1 in overtime to Birmingham-Southern on Saturday in Birmingham, Ala. Hendrix’s Sydney Fobrae rebounded Hagan Griffith’s shot in the 58th minute to tie the game 1-1. With 1:01 left in overtime, Taylor Andrews scored on a long shot from the top of the middle of the box for the game-winning goal. Hendrix (7-3, 0-1) outshot Birmingham-Southern (4-5, 1-0) 19-15 and had a 7-4 edge in corner kicks.

Harding women edge Southern Nazarene

Bethany Sutherland scored on a penalty kick in the 84th minute to give Harding’s women a 1-0 victory over Southern Nazarene in Bethany, Okla., on Saturday. Harding (5-2-0, 2-0-0 Great American Conference) finished with 16 shots on goal. Southern Nazarene (1-7-0, 0-2-0) had 10 shots on goal.

Harding men top Southern Nazarene

Jeremy Nwonumah scored twice to help Harding’s men beat Southern Nazarene 4-2 Saturday in Bethany, Okla. Harding (7-1-0, 1-1-0 GAC) also received goals from Matheus Riberio and Barry Foster. Harding attempted 20 shots with nine on goal.

UCA men fall in 2 OTs

Central Arkansas lost in double overtime to Evansville 1-0 on Saturday in Evansville, Ind. In the second overtime, Trevor Baum fielded a clearing attempt by the Bears at midfield and launched the ball back into the box where Kyle Brown scored the goal. Marc Olsen made six saves in goal for Central Arkansas (2-4-1, 0-1-0 Missouri Valley Conference).

CROSS COUNTRY

UCA runs at Texas A&M

The Central Arkansas men finished eighth and the women finished 12th at the Texas A&M Invitational in College Station, Texas. Sophomore Markus Schweikert led the Bears with a 19th-place finish, covering the 8,000-meter course in a time of 25 minutes, 3.86 seconds. Host Texas A&M won the event with 33 points, while UCA was eighth out of 15 teams with 221 points. On the women’s side, senior Brigette Caruthers finished 34th over the 6,000-meter course in a time of 21:55.45 as UCA was 12th out of 17 teams. Rice won the event with 70 points while UCA had 315.

Hendrix splits in Birmingham

Hendrix defeated Birmingham-Southern 27-25, 25-16, 25-16 and lost to Emory University 21-25, 25-21, 25-15, 16-25, 15-13 on Saturday in Birmingham, Ala. Against Birmingham-Southern, the Warriors (9-4) were led by MC Rogers, who had 12 kills. Allison Gala had 18 assists while Holyn Radack had 15. Leila Matsumoto had 18 digs while Lauren Dwyer had 11. Against Emory, Dwyer had 15 kills while Rogers had 13 and Sara Dyslin had

UCA beats McNeese State

Central Arkansas defeated McNeese State 25-21, 20-25, 25-21, 25-23 on Saturday in Lake Charles, La. Megan Nash led the Sugar Bears (8-7, 2-1 Southland Conference) with 15 kills while Haley Tippett had 13 and Samantha Anderson had 10. Elizabeth Armstrong had 45 assists. Amanda Dimon had 16 digs and Armstrong had 12.
