Hampton to play Friday days after assistant coach's death

Hampton will play at Camden Harmony Grove at 8 p.m. Friday, an hour later than scheduled.

Hampton assistant coach Jorre McMahan, 26, collapsed during the Bulldogs’ practice and died later at Ouachita County Hospital in Camden. He was in his first year as an assistant coach at Hampton after spending two seasons at Barton.

Hampton Coach Wes Ables said there was discussion of rescheduling the game, but Hampton and Camden Harmony Grove agreed to move the start time back one hour instead.

McMahan’s funeral is at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hampton High School and is open to the public.

Hampton (4-0) and Camden Harmony Grove (2-2) are tied for first place in the 8-2A Conference at 1-0 along with Bearden (2-1). Hampton is No. 6 in this week’s Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Class 2A Super Six.
