Site's regional list ranks city 4th-best

An online service that helps people find cheap flights rated Little Rock as the fourth-best city in an eight-state region.

Ranking higher than Little Rock on RewardExpert's best midsize city list in the South Central region were Knoxville, Tenn.; Baton Rouge; and Midland, Texas.

Denton, Texas, came in fifth in the region, comprising Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas.

RewardExpert evaluated "midsized" cities and ranked them based on 13 metrics broken down into four categories: affordability, safety, recreational activities and city profile.

The website gave Little Rock a score of 78.4 out of 100, touting the city's arts community and outdoor recreation.

The ranking said a three-star hotel room in Little Rock averages $98 per day, which is the least expensive of all cities examined in the South Central region.

Contest to reward sculpture selfies

Little Rock is promoting a social-media picture contest ahead of this year's Sculpture at the River Market show and sale.

The city's "Selfie with a Sculpture" contest started last week and will last through Tuesday. It is meant to encourage people to explore the city and its public artworks, as well as to advertise the upcoming show.

To enter, people must take selfies with their favorite sculptures in Little Rock and post them on Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #LRSculpture.

Winners of the contest will be announced April 20.

The grand prize includes tickets to the Sculpture Show Preview Party on April 21. Three smaller prizes also will be given. Attendees of the preview party get to vote on the seven semifinalist proposals in the sculpture contest.

The full sculpture show will take place April 22-23. More than 800 sculptures will be on display. The winning artist -- who will have his work commissioned to be placed somewhere in the city -- will be announced on the 23rd.

This is the 10th year of the sculpture show.
