State index up 2.40 to close at 340.04

The Arkansas Index, a price-weighted index that tracks the largest public companies based in the state, gained 2.40 to 340.04 Monday.

"The major averages closed in positive territory amid easing geopolitical concerns and the start of the first-quarter earnings season," said Bob Williams, senior vice president and managing director of Simmons First Investment Group Inc. in Little Rock.

The index was developed by Bloomberg News and the Democrat-Gazette with a base value of 100 as of Dec. 30, 1997.
