Triple doubles give Travs big inning

Texas League

Travelers 3, Missions 1

Three doubles in the sixth inning led to the two runs for the Arkansas Travelers in a 3-1 victory over the San Antonio Missions on Monday afternoon before an announced crowd of 3,354 at Wolff Stadium in San Antonio.

Trailing 1-0 going into the sixth inning, Ian Miller led off the inning with a double to right field off Missons starter Cesar Vargas. Chuck Taylor followed with a double down the right-field line to score Miller and tie the game at 1-1. After Tyler Marlette grounded out to third, allowing Taylor to move to third, Kyle Waldrop doubled down the right-field line to score Taylor to make it 2-1. Rafael De Paula replaced Vargas and struck out Ryan Casteel and got Matt Littlewood to pop up to end the inning.

The Travelers added a run in the ninth when Miller's sacrifice fly scored Joey Wong.

Despite allowing a single to Alberth Martinez in the ninth and throwing a wild pitch that allowed Martinez to move to second, Travelers reliever Thyago Viera got River Stevens to ground out and A.J. Kennedy to strike out to end the game.

The Missions' run came in the fourth inning when Nick Schulz homered off the Travs' Andrew Moore (1-0), who pitched seven innings to get the victory after Seattle Mariners reliever Steve Cishek started and pitched one inning while working on minor-league rehabilitation assignment.

Moore allowed 1 run on 6 hits with 4 strikeouts. Vargas (0-2) allowed 2 runs on 4 hits in 5 1/3 innings.
