REX NELSON: Getting schooled in Helena

By Rex Nelson

Good for Helena. Hopefully an example that others will follow.

I'n glad the voters passed the increase. Public schools can use the same methods employed by KIPP to better educate students. Higher standards, increased amounts of reading and math, longer hours, and a longer school year all work toward improving student outcome. Communities which support their public schools financially have better economies, lower crime, and higher housing prices. The best way to turn a community around is to improve the schools.
