Summer Cabaret raises funds for the Rep’s education programs

An entertaining midsummer afternoon awaited guests at the Arkansas Repertory Theatre's Annex Black Box Theatre on Aug. 6 as students performed in the second annual Summer Cabaret.

The show is the biggest fundraiser for scholarships for the Rep's education programs. Education director Anna Kimmel said almost $20,000 in scholarships were given to students this year. "Our education program expanded in a big way this year," she said, noting that workshops and classes are now offered year-round.

She invited guests to try the event's signature drink, a Midsummer Night's Mocktail, and to enjoy a show she called a "magical mix of scenes." After the show, a spot in an acting class was auctioned off. Worth $300, the guaranteed spot sold for $425. Normally, classes are filled on a first come, first served basis. Guests were also invited to enjoy drinks and snacks in the lobby and at Matt McLeod Fine Art next door.
