Library fines, fees to go to storm relief

The Central Arkansas Library System will donate any fines and fees collected Monday through Sept. 10 for overdue books to the American Red Cross to assist residents who were affected by Hurricane Harvey.

To participate, library patrons may pay for fines at any of the library system's 14 branch libraries or online at www.cals.org.

The library system will be closed Monday, but fines and fees may still be paid online.

The American Red Cross is helping people affected by Hurricane Harvey in Texas and all across the Gulf Coast.

"We want to help address the profound suffering of our neighbors in Texas who have experienced epic catastrophe," said Nate Coulter, CALS executive director. "Working with the American Red Cross is a simple and tangible way to allow our patrons to help and raise awareness of the relief efforts."
