Northwest Arkansas groups collect items for hurricane victims

Northwest Arkansas businesses and organizations are helping the victims of Hurricane Harvey by collecting items for relief efforts.

The Rotary Club of Bentonville, Rogers Early Risers Rotary Club, Lions Clubs of Rogers and Bentonville, and United Way of NWA are teaming with several area businesses where donations may be dropped off:

Bentonville

• George Nunnally Chevrolet, 2700 S.E. Moberly Lane

Rogers

Springdale

• Phat Tire at 101 W. Johnson Ave.

Fayetteville

• Phat Tire at 3775 N. Mall Ave.

Suggested items include baby formula, diapers, hand sanitizer, nonperishable food, moist towelettes, sweatsuits, socks, towels, bottled water, toiletries, blankets and pillows.

Sheep Dog Impact Assistance is collecting items at its office at 1200 W. Walnut St., Suite 2301 in Rogers and at McLarty Daniel Ford at 2609 S. Walton Blvd. in Bentonville.

Sheep Dog is also collecting monetary donations so the six teams it's sending can buy more items closer to the affected area rather than making return trips to Arkansas, said Jayme Lingo, with the Northwest Arkansas chapter. Monetary donations can be made online at www.sheepdogia.org.

Humane Society of the Ozarks is partnering with Spay Arkansas and Fighting for Fido -- Rescue & Animal Advocacy of NW Arkansas to collect pet supplies, according to its Facebook page.

Items needed include dog pooper scoopers, thousands of poop bags, puppy pads, leashes, harnesses and collars, canned dog food, litter boxes, litter scoops, cat bedding, cardboard scratch pads and posts, used towels, fleece blankets, toys, gallon-size zip-lock bags, paper towels, pens, canned food lids, crates, metal spoons, detergent, small light weight tarps, bowls for food and water.
