U.S. 70 in Saline County to close for paving work

Work on a $78.5 million project to widen U.S. 70 between Benton and Hot Springs will require lane closings in multiple locations in Saline County from today through Dec. 16, the Arkansas Department of Transportation said.

Crews performing paving work will require flagging operations and alternate closings of the eastbound and westbound lanes of U.S. 70 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on any of the days, weather permitting, at the following locations:

• East and west of Crossroads in Benton.

• East and west of Arkansas 128 at Lonsdale.

• From Saline County Road 1381 east for a half-mile.

Also at some point between today and Dec. 16, excluding Sunday, crews will perform paving work on a U.S. 70 frontage road just west of Interstate 30 in Benton, the department said.

Eastbound and westbound lanes of the frontage road will be alternately closed from its junction at U.S. 70 and extending west about an eighth of a mile during the work, which is expected to last from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting.

Motorists should consider alternate routes, including U.S. 270, the department said.
