Repairs to limit Potter Street use

A portion of Potter Street in Little Rock will be accessible only by local traffic for about four months starting Monday.

The roadway is being restricted to allow for street, curb, gutter and drainage improvements.

Potter Street from Colonel Glenn Road and 40th Street will be available only to local traffic starting at 9 a.m. Monday until the work is completed.

Detour signs will reroute motorists to Walker Street, two blocks west of Potter Street.

Menorah included in holiday display

For the first year ever, a Hanukkah menorah joins the downtown Little Rock Christmas tree at Capitol Avenue and Main Street.

The Downtown Little Rock Partnership facilitates the displays with private funding. Officials with that group said Friday that the Lubavitch of Arkansas-Center for Jewish Life spearheaded the placement of the menorah there this year.

The group also hosts an annual public menorah lighting at Centennial Bank on Bowman Road each year.

Jukebox added to annual light show

A central Arkansas teenager's annual Christmas light show to benefit Make-A-Wish Arkansas has expanded this year.

Shane Johnson, 17, started the light show when he was 14 years old. It features his house and two neighboring houses.

Motorists can pull up outside and tune their radios to an advertised station to hear music that coordinates with the light show.

This year, Johnson has added more lights and a jukebox. Each night will feature a different theme of music.

Christmas Classics will be played on Sundays and Mondays. The Trans-Siberian Orchestra will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Wednesday will feature remixes, and the other two days are reserved for Johnson's favorites.

People can also exit their vehicles and use the jukebox to choose from any of 15 available songs.

Johnson asks that viewers of the light show leave a donation to Make-A-Wish Arkansas in a provided box.

The show runs nightly on Jupiter Drive, a dead-end dirt road off of Heinke Road in Mabelvale, until Dec. 31.

It will not run during any rains, including sprinkling.
