Governor plans commutation

Gov. Asa Hutchinson said Friday he intends to commute the sentence of a Randolph County man with an 80-year prison term for drug charges.

Jimmy Doyle, 58, has been imprisoned since 2004 on felony charges related to the manufacture and sale of methamphetamine in Randolph and Lawrence counties, as well as a felony gun charge. Doyle is incarcerated at the Craighead County jail through the Act 309 work-release program, according to prison records, and is eligible for parole in March 2022.

If his sentence is commuted, Doyle will immediately be eligible for parole, according to the governor's announcement.

According to the Department of Correction's website, Doyle has completed anger management, parenting and stress management courses while in prison. The governor's order states that the Randolph County sheriff has raised objections to the commutation.

In a news release, the governor also announced plans to pardon six people who have completed prison and probation terms for theft and drug charges. He also restored firearms rights to one man.
