The accomplishments of Little Rock civil-rights icon Daisy Gatson Bates will be the focus of a discussion panel tonight at the National Park Service's Central High School National Historic Site Visitor Center in Little Rock.
The discussion, set for 6-7:30 p.m., will include panelists Lillie Fears, a member of the Arkansas State University journalism faculty; Janis Kearney, an author, presidential historian and Bates biographer; and La'Keisha Gray-Sewell, the founder and president of the Girls Like Me Project and a digital media producer and strategist.
The panel discussion, held in conjunction with Daisy Gatson Bates Day, will recall the accomplishment of Bates as a journalist and humanitarian activist. The day named for Bates falls on George Washington's Birthday, a federal holiday.
The discussion is free and open to the public.
