"She takes a lot of pride in her defense," Farmington coach Brad Johnson said of Journagan. "She got in foul trouble and missed some shots early. But she found a way to make a play. I'm so proud of her. The points she scored for us were massive."

Alma (8-8) battled back in the fourth quarter with scoring from Kailey Fagan, who finished with a game-high 22 points.

Fagan hit a three-point basket with 4:48 left in the game to give the Airedalettes a 39-38 lead. But Alma scored its next basket with 2:34 left to play and didn't score again after that.

"It all boils down to a stop and a rebound," Johnson said. "I'm not so sure we did a great job of that all night long, but we did it went we needed it. We are glad we were able to make just one more play."

The Airedalettes missed the first end of a one-and-one just before Journagan was able to score to take the lead after a missed 3-point attempt. Alma then had a shot at the buzzer to win, but it didn't fall.

"Missing some free throws hurt us down the stretch," Alma coach Codey Mann said. "We still fought hard and got stops. I've been on the other side of games like this before. I'm proud of our girls."

Farmington (14-3) was led by Madisyn Pense, who finished with a team-high 16 points. Makenna Vanzant also added 11 points for the Lady Cardinals to help pick up the road conference victory.

Farmington took a 27-25 lead into halftime after using a strong start to the second quarter to help build a lead.
