Red Cross seeks donors

The American Red Cross needs blood donations to help overcome a severe winter blood shortage, which is being compounded by ongoing winter weather.

Upcoming drives:

Child care training set

Child Care Aware of Northwest Arkansas provides free training.

• Monday. “Anger: Guiding Children in Choices and Consequences” provides basic concepts and skills in providing effective consequences for behavior in children and teens. Class is held from 10 a.m. to noon at 614 E. Emma Ave., Suite 131, in Springdale.

• Tuesday. “Unsafe Stress: Three Stages and How to Manage” class will assist participants in assessing their stress and moving forward with a plan for growth. Class will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at 614 E. Emma Ave., Suite 131, in Springdale.

• Wednesday. “Conscious Discipline Book Study: Composure” will teach strategies for changing destructive trigger thoughts into healthy selftalk. Learn effective ways to praise and encourage children. Class is from 10 a.m.to noon at 1200 W. Walnut St., in Rogers.

Fay Jones School

holds lecture

Marc Manack and Frank Jacobus will present a lecture at 5 p.m. Monday in Ken and Linda Sue Shollmier Hall in Vol Wlaker Hall on the University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville, as part of the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design lecture series. This is the Kappa Sigma Lecture in honor of Fay Jones. Admission is free, with limited seating.

Jacobus and Manack are principals of SILO AR+D, an architecture, research and design practice that currently operates out of Cleveland, Ohio, Fayetteville and Charlotte, N.C. In 2016, SILO was selected as an “emerging voice” by the Architectural League of New York, a competition that recognizes significant bodies of work and considers accomplishments within the design and academic communities.

In their lecture, titled “SILO AR+D,” Jacobus and Manack will explore the firm’s recent work.

Jacobus is an associate professor and the 21st Century Chair of Building Technologies in the Fay Jones School. Manack is the assistant professor of building design at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He taught previously at the Fay Jones School.
