Lane on U.S. 70 to close for paving

Work on a section of U.S. 70 in Garland County will require lanes to be closed for three days beginning today, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said.

Paving crews will require the eastbound lane to be closed on a 1-mile section west from Arkansas 128 from 7 a.m. to 7p.m. daily, weather permitting.

Flagging operations will control traffic within the work zone, but the department said motorists should consider alternate routes during the work, including U.S. 270.

The work is part of a $78.5 million project to widen 17.5 miles of U.S. 70 to five lanes from Interstate 30 in Benton to U.S. 70B in Hot Springs. It is now two lanes with some passing lanes. The project is expected to be completed late next year.
