4 sessions planned on genealogy hunt

A professional genealogist on Saturday will present four sessions on family-tree research for people of all skill levels.

Robin Hanson, a professor of cultural history, will hold the sessions from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Central Arkansas Library System's Ron Robinson Theater, 100 River Market Ave.

Registration is not required, and admission is free. Doors open at 9 a.m.

Workshop to teach art canvas-making

For artists, a six-hour Arkansas Arts Center class on Saturday will cover canvas-making.

Gary Fults, the woodworking department chairman, and Robert Bean, the drawing and painting department chairman, will teach participants how to build a frame from raw lumber and then how to stretch raw canvas over the frame.

The single-session class runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Arts Center, 501 E. Ninth St. Enrollment is $60 for Arts Center members and $75 for nonmembers.

Input is sought on closing street

Little Rock officials are seeking neighborhood input as they consider closing a portion of Leander Drive that runs through Boyle Park.

Officials with the police, fire, public works and parks departments will hold a public meeting at 6 p.m. Monday at The Centre of University Park, 6401 W. 12th St.

Residents are invited to attend and voice their opinions.

Leander Road connects to the south side of Kanis Road and winds past an apartment complex and a neighborhood before reaching the park. It connects to West 28th Street and ends at Boyle Park Road.

Tryouts scheduled for children's shows

The Arkansas Arts Center has invited student actors to audition Thursday for roles in three shows at its children's theater.

Students who are in sixth grade and higher will be considered for roles in Giggle, Giggle, Quack; Goosebumps the Musical: Phantom of the Auditorium; and Mother Goose Christmas. The shows make up the first half of the theater's six-show season.

Students who are auditioning for the musical should prepare 16 bars of music.

Terror-movie night to feature '59 flick

The 1959 movie House on a Haunted Hill is next in the Central Arkansas Library System's Terror Tuesday series of classic scary movies.

A millionaire offers $10,000 to five people who agree to spend one night in a large, spooky house with him and his wife for a haunted house party, according IMDB.

The movie starts at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the library system's Ron Robinson Theater, 100 River Market Ave. Admission is $2, and tickets are available online at cals.org.
