Need to ratify ERA

Women are not equal under the U.S. Constitution until three more states vote to ratify the 28th Amendment (Equal Rights Amendment), which under the new version (Women's Equality Amendment) has no deadline. Read about the 15 not-yet-ratified states on page 8 of War on Women Administrators (EEOC Documentation).

Reasons to subscribe

Re "Cancel my paper?": Not me. Why, you may ask? I continue my subscription for many, many reasons, in no particular order:

Our paper is on our doorstep every morning, thanks to Howard. He's great!

The editorials are informative, such as Saturday's "No walls here." Spot-on and very informative. My answer is, simply, follow the money, especially that provided by lobbyists.

The contributors in no specific order: David Brooks, always an intelligent read; Charles Krauthammer, ditto; Mike Masterson, though he coughs a lot he keeps us informed of local issues; Walter Williams, a welcome addition; the many guest writers; Paul Krugman, seems like an angry man; John Brummett, a bit snarky at times but writes his opinions well even when I disagree with him; Bradley Gitz and Dana Kelley, both research their articles well.

Sports, Style and Business too.

All this and global, national, regional and local issues to peruse in detail for me every day with my morning coffee.

Thanks again, Howard.

It is a wonderful life

I am (1) a regular patron of Fantastic China Restaurant in the Heights and (2) a little absent-minded. The other night I ordered takeout. When I picked up my food, the proprietor, Kavion Wang, handed me my order--and with it an envelope containing $30.

She explained that the last time my wife and I had eaten there, in calculating the tip I had multiplied by 2 instead of times 0.2. Ms. Wang had processed my card and then noticed my goof. Redoing my math, she decided she owed me the $30 and kept it for me in an envelope behind the counter.

How's that for life in Little Rock? Three cheers for Fantastic China!

Time to wake up, guys

The Trump administration continues to try and govern our country by doing and saying things without being prepared or considering the consequences of its actions. This haphazard course is worrying our allies, infuriating our enemies and scaring the majority of the citizens of the United States. It is up to our legislative branch, led by the Republicans, to put our country first for change and tether in the executive branch.

If they don't come together in a bipartisan way and control Trump and his buddies soon, the damage being done to our country will be so severe it may be beyond repair.

Lines seem visible ...

It was with great interest that I read "No walls here, just invisible state lines" on the March 4 editorial page that explained why allowing insurers to sell policies across state lines will cure our health crisis.

Interesting because it seemed to be gleaned from an Associated Press article printed two days earlier in this very paper, "Cross-state health ideas a concern for some."

Interesting because the thrust of the article, as I understood, was that this idea has been kicked around for a long time and that there is a good reason why no one in Congress has actually championed the concept until now: This nonsense probably won't help. Only competition in the actual health-care service-delivery system can substantially effect costs.

Interesting because I had thought that state sovereignty was a bedrock conservative principle--not a Republican bumper sticker to be cast aside whenever expedient. I hope we have the pleasure of hearing from Allen Kerr, the appointed insurance commissioner of the state of Arkansas, as we race to the bottom of the insurance barrel and have our hardworking citizens pay a substantial portion of their income on health insurance not worth the paper it's printed on.

I understand the purpose of your piece was to convey an opinion rather than useful information, but please save the ink next time and assume I actually read your paper. I must say I feel blessed to be able to subscribe to a rag that makes me curse into my cup of coffee each and every day of the week. Good morning.

Past point for 'trivial'

What "trivial fights" were you speaking to us about, Mr. President?

We would all love to see political bickering put aside, but if your health-care proposal leaves more people vulnerable and frozen out of because of cost, there will be a fight, and not only from Democrats.

If your infrastructure-improvement plan turns out to be only tax breaks for contractors doing work already planned, if your budget starves the State Department of strategic resources that prevent the need for military deployments, or your immigration policies turn out to be expensive, ineffective boondoggles and careless mass roundups, there will be fights. And they will not be "trivial."
