U.S. 71B lane closures extended

Work on the Bella Vista Bypass requiring lane closures on North Walton Boulevard in Bentonville has been extended through March 24 because of bad weather, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said.

Crews placing asphalt associated with the construction of a roundabout at Interstate 49 will continue to require alternate closures of the northbound and southbound lanes on a section of North Walton, also called U.S. 71B, from just north of the I-49 overpass to 0.4 miles south of the overpass from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, weather permitting. The work began Feb. 27.

The department said motorists should expect traffic lining up for short periods of time as only one lane of traffic will remain open during the daily closures. Lanes will be restored to two-way operations after 6 p.m. Traffic will be controlled using signs and flaggers, the department said.

The work is part of a project to construct 6 miles of the bypass, also called Arkansas 549/Future I-49, from U.S. 71B to Arkansas 72. The project involves the initial two lanes of a four-lane facility, the department said.
