BENTON COUNTY

Bella Vista Community Church, 75 E. Lancashire Blvd., offers Lenten meditations and soup suppers every Wednesday through Lent. Supper is served from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. at a cost of $3 per person or $5 per family. Meditations run from 6:30 to 7 p.m. in the sanctuary.

The church plans a newcomer's orientation at 7 p.m. Wednesday for those wanting to know more about the church.

The church has opened registration for its summer arts camp, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. June 19-23, for children entering grades 1 to 6. Classes include hand chimes, guitar, line dancing, card making, watercolor collage, weaving, junk sculpture and more. Cost is $10 per student, with scholarships for families entering multiple students.

Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rogers, 2305 S. Dixieland Road, offers Lenten services at 7:30 p.m. every Wednesday. A soup and sandwich meal precedes each service.

The church begins a monthly Bible study on the liturgy at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Rogers, 1101 W. Hudson Road, celebrates Lent with special worship services at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Wednesday. The church's music ministry serves Lenten supper of chili at 5:30 p.m. Donations will support the Office of Human Concern in Rogers.

The church youth plan a 12-hour fundraiser today for the Snack Pack program at the Samaritan Center. From 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., the youth will watch "direct to home" Disney sequels, live-streamed on the church website with an online opportunity to support the program.

The United Lutheran Church of Bella Vista, 100 Cooper Road, serves a Lenten supper at 6 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a Lenten service at 6:25 p.m.

The Breakfast Club meets at 8 a.m. March 20, with Paul Polides speaking. An Irish breakfast will be served.

Bella Vista Lutheran Church, 1990 Forest Hills Blvd., offers Lenten worship services at 6 p.m. each Wednesday until Easter. A light supper will be served before the service.

The Shepherd's Food Pantry is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Friday. The pantry needs donations of shampoo, body wash and toothbrushes, and any $5 coupon from Dollar General will be used to buy hygiene products.

The Presbyterian Church of Bella Vista, 1880 Forest Hills Blvd., serves Lenten soup suppers at 6 p.m. each Wednesday, followed by a Lenten presentation.

The church offers a Lenten study at 2 p.m. Thursday through April 6. The Rev. Dennis Ritchie and the Rev. Liz Wagner, church pastors, lead the study, "Aging Matters: Find Your Calling for the Rest of Your Life," by R. Paul Stevens. Study books are $12.

New Life Christian Church in Bella Vista, 103 Riordan Road, hosts Brother Yun, author of The Heavenly Man, at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Yun was instrumental in the development of the Christian house church networks in China during the 1980s and 1990s.

Little Sprouts Preschool is currently taking enrollment for the fall for children ages 3 to 5 years old.

Highland Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Bella Vista, 1500 Forest Hills Blvd., sponsors the Disciple Women Fellowship at 10 a.m. today. Heather Finley, the chairperson of the advisory board for the Gravette public schools, will speak on the "Bright Futures" program.

Disciple Men Fellowship meet at 8:30 a.m. March 18. A representative of the Salvation Army will speak.

The church serves a potluck meal for fellowship immediately following the 10:30 a.m. worship service March 19.

First United Methodist Church in Bella Vista, 20 Boyce Drive, offers Lenten services and luncheons each Wednesday through April 12. The services begin at 11:45 a.m., followed by lunch.

The church sponsors Midweek Manna each Wednesday. A fellowship meal is served from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. for a donation of $5 for adults, $3 for children younger than 10, with a family maximum of $15. Small group study, craft and activity groups for adults and programs for children run from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m.

Bazaar craft workshops meet from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Thursday until the Oct. 7 bazaar.

Compassion Fayetteville offers a Taize with prayer and music at 6:30 p.m. March 24 at 1901 S. Pumpkin Ridge Drive in Fayetteville.

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fayetteville, 2925 N. Old Missouri Road, presents the spring concert tour of Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kan. The college choir, chamber choir and hand bell ensemble will perform at 7 p.m. March 18. This year's performance features the cantata Rejoice in the Lamb by Benjamin Britten.

First Presbyterian Church in Springdale, 100 S. Gutensohn Road, offers inter-generational Lenten fellowships each Wednesday, through April 5. Dinner is served at 5:30 p.m., with classes on spiritual disciplines at 6:15 p.m. Nursery care is available.

First United Methodist Church in Springdale, 206 W. Johnson Ave., presents Amber C. Haines, a Fayetteville writer and poet, as its "local artist for Lent." She will present spoken word reflections during Lenten worship services at 8:30 a.m., 9:45 a.m. and 11 a.m. each Sunday through April 9. The church's local arts initiative exists "to enliven the Christian imagination by creating opportunities for engagement with the arts and supporting local artists in Northwest Arkansas." "America Sings: A Choral Reading Festival" is offered today, by the Northwest Arkansas chapter of the American Guild of Organists, at First United Methodist Church in Springdale, 206 W. Johnson Ave. Lawrence Zehring, director of music ministries at First United Methodist Church in Bella Vista, will introduce shape note, gospel and revival traditions in the works of William Billings (1746 to 1800), regarded as the first American choral composer.

The event is free, with registration beginning at 9:30 a.m. Participants present a public concert at 1:30 p.m.

Holiday Island Community Church, 188 Stateline Dr., offers the Ray Vander Scripture series, The Mission of Jesus, at 2 p.m. each Tuesday during Lent. The five-week video series was shot in the Holy Land.

The church presents pianist Joel Sebag in a free concert at 3 p.m. March 26. The performance is part of the Woodward Memorial Concert Series.

Faith Bible Church in Holiday Island, 3 Parkcliff Dr., presents J.B. Hixson, president of Not By Works Ministries, speaking at 9:30 a.m. Sunday. Hixson founded the ministry in 1999, which focuses on evangelism, evangelism training, missions and discipleship.

St. Scholastica Monastery in Fort Smith, 1301 S. Albert Pike Ave., hosts the Citizens' Climate Lobby from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. The presentation, "Climate of Hope," will include a dialogue led by Shelley Buaniauto and Nancy Brown. Robert McAfee, a climatologist who served on Gov. Mike Beebe's commission on global warming also speaks on current climate disruption.

The monastery offers a labyrinth walk from 2 to 4 p.m. March 18 in conjunction with Women Speak Peace. The sisters will share poetry, song and fellowship after the walk.
