Police investigate after a shooting near Arkansas Baptist College in Little Rock injured one person Tuesday, March 14.

A student was shot and hurt in an attempted robbery near Arkansas Baptist College on Tuesday morning, police said.

Michelle Hill, a spokesman for the Little Rock Police Department, said at the scene that the shooting happened shortly before 10 a.m. in the 1600 block of Bishop Street.

The male victim, whose identity was not released, was approached by three black males in front of a house between 15th and 16th streets, Hill said.

After the student was shot, the three would-be robbers fled the scene in a white vehicle, according to police.

Authorities remained on scene around 10:30 a.m. processing evidence, including blood that could be seen spattered on the hood of a black car parked just north of the college along 16th Street.

Hill said the victim ran back toward the college after being shot. He was later taken to UAMS Medical Center for injuries described as not life-threatening.

Police said Arkansas Baptist College was placed on lockdown for about 15 minutes as part of protocol.
