• Plantation Agriculture Museum. This state museum covers much the same history as the plantation settlement: cotton agriculture through Arkansas' first 100 years of statehood. The two places cotton to each other, and a stop at one naturally calls for a look at the other. More information: arkansasstateparks.com or (501) 961-1409.

• Toltec Mounds Archeological State Park. Ancient Indian mounds pose a mystery at this park off 165. Work is ongoing to discover more about the monuments, what they mean and what became of the people who built them. More information: arkansasstateparks.com or (501) 961-9442.

• Cotham's Mercantile restaurant. Cotham's is famous for its aptly-named (whoa!) hubcap burger, not to mention the (whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa!) quadruple hubcap. They serve regular-size cheeseburgers too. More information: (501) 961-9284.

• Seaton's Scott Place. Seaton's makes a Southern art of barbecue and catfish, as recommended by genuine Southerners at the plantation settlement. More information: (501) 961-1100.

• Charlotte's Eats and Sweets. Just down the road in Keo, Charlotte's is where pie is queen -- every kind of pie that grandma ever made and just as good. More information: (501) 842-2123.

• Keo is home, as well, to the sprawling array of Morris Antiques, everything from European dinnerware to a Victorian etagere. More information: morrisantiques.com or (501) 842-3531.
