Beebe got a strong pitching performance from right-hander Abby Burch, and back-to-back home runs accounted for three runs in the third during a 4-2 victory over Sylvan Hills in the Class 5A-Central softball final Friday night in Sherwood.
The Badgers (18-11) earned the top seed in next week's Class 5A state tournament that will be played on the same field.
The scored was tied 0-0 when No. 9 hitter Molly Poe reached on an infield single to start the third, and Nikita Howell lifted a high deep fly to left for a 2-0 lead.
Up next, Hannah Gammill lined one out to left center, and it was 3-0.
"That has not been a part of our game in the past, but this year we hit more home runs this year than in the past few years,'' Chambers said.
The Lady Bears (20-11) made it a 3-2 game with one out and one on in the sixth. Pitcher Destiny Sanders, batting left-handed, hit one out to left center.
It was the Bears' only run-scoring hit of the game.
They loaded with one out in the third but failed to score, and left two more on in the fourth.
"It was two good teams battling it out; it could have gone either way,'' Sylvan Hills Coach Mark Anderson said. "I felt like we were a couple of hits away from busting it open in a couple of innings. We just could not get the timely hit to make something happen, and you have got to get those hits."
Burch, who struck out seven, was at her best when the Bears had their best chances.
She ended the third inning with back-to-back strikeouts and had another key strikeout in the fourth. She did not strike out a batter after one out in the fifth.
The Badgers made it 4-2 in the top of the seventh.
Katlyn Gordon, who reached on an infield single, scored on a passed ball after Beebe loaded the bases with no outs.
"We feel comfortable playing here,'' Chambers said. "We are glad to be playing here next week."
