SPRINGDALE -- A Springdale man died early Sunday after he tried to break up a fight and was stabbed four times, according to a preliminary police report.

Police said they found Luis Esmurria-Anaya, 44, at 2:06 a.m. bleeding on the staircase at 1705 Lowell Road, Building C. He was pronounced dead at Northwest Regional Medical Center-Springdale, according to the report.

Esmurria-Anaya lived in a different building at the apartment complex, Sgt. Chad Niccum said in email.

No one else was hurt, police said.

Hector M. Solivan, 20, of 712 Maple Drive, was arrested at his home Sunday afternoon in connection with first-degree murder and a misdemeanor offense, police said. Solivan fled from the stabbing, the report shows.

Solivan told police after his arrest he stabbed Esmurria-Anaya, saw him fall to the ground and saw him have a "seizure," the report shows.

Witnesses said they tried to break up the fight when Esmurria-Anaya was stabbed three times in the chest, once on the right side and was cut on the back of the head, according to the preliminary report.

Esmurria-Anaya and Solivan didn't know each other, Niccum said. Alcohol was a factor in the incident, he said.

Niccum said information about the witnesses couldn't be released Monday.

Solivan's criminal background includes possession of alcohol by a minor and a failure to appear offense, according to the police report.

Solivan was at the Washington County Detention Center with no bond Monday.
