Beach Bums, did not start the season for the independent Frontier League team Friday. Instead, on Tuesday, he tweeted he was "blessed to have an opportunity to continue my career with the Colorado Rockies." Although his assignment in the Rockies organization has not been made official, he would be assigned to the Asheville (N.C.) Tourists if he remains at the Class A level.
• Pitcher Barrett Astin (Razorbacks/Forrest City) was recalled Sunday to the Cincinnati Reds from the Class AAA Louisville Bats for the fourth time this season. Astin is 0-2 this season with a 6.39 ERA in 5 appearances, including 2 starts, for the Bats and has allowed 9 earned runs on 20 hits in 122/3 innings. He's appeared in 5 games for the Reds, lasting an inning each time, and has allowed 3 earned runs on 6 hits.
