• Third baseman Bobby Wernes (Razorbacks), who had been with the Quad Cities River Bandits (A Astros) in Davenport, Iowa, last season and was slated to play for the Traverse City (Mich.) Beach Bums, did not start the season for the independent Frontier League team Friday. Instead, on Tuesday, he tweeted he was "blessed to have an opportunity to continue my career with the Colorado Rockies." Although his assignment in the Rockies organization has not been made official, he would be assigned to the Asheville (N.C.) Tourists if he remains at the Class A level.

• Pitcher Barrett Astin (Razorbacks/Forrest City) was recalled Sunday to the Cincinnati Reds from the Class AAA Louisville Bats for the fourth time this season. Astin is 0-2 this season with a 6.39 ERA in 5 appearances, including 2 starts, for the Bats and has allowed 9 earned runs on 20 hits in 122/3 innings. He's appeared in 5 games for the Reds, lasting an inning each time, and has allowed 3 earned runs on 6 hits. Astin pitched for the Reds on Monday in a 10-4 loss to the New York Yankees, allowing 3 earned runs on 4 hits with 2 walks in his only inning of work.

• Pitcher Mike Bolsinger (Razorbacks) was recalled by the Toronto Blue Jays from the Class AAA Buffalo Bisons on Tuesday. • Pitcher Ashur Tolliver (Sylvan Hills) was activated from the disabled list by the Fresno Grizzlies (AAA Astros) on May 5 after recovering from an oblique injury. He went right to work, pitching an inning with a strikeout in a 5-1 victory over the Sacramento River Cats (AAA Giants) on May 5. He went 11/3 innings Tuesday in an 8-5 loss at the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (AAA Brewers), allowing a hit and two walks with a strikeout. Tolliver then went 12/3 innings Friday in a 5-2 loss to the Oklahoma City Dodgers (AAA Dodgers) and had 4 strikeouts.
