Arkansas schools set graduation events

Several public high schools in Pulaski County are hosting graduation and baccalaureate services this weekend and later this month.

Jacksonville

Jacksonville High School will hold its first graduation ceremony as part of the newly formed Jacksonville/North Pulaski School District at 7:30 p.m. today at the Jack Stephens Center on the University of Arkansas at Little Rock campus, where 187 students are to graduate.

Little Rock School District

Baccalaureate services featuring speakers from the community will be held Sunday at the different campuses.

Graduation ceremonies will be held over the course of next week, all at Verizon Arena in North Little Rock, for some 1,500 seniors from the district's five high schools.

Following is the information for each Little Rock district school:

• Central High: Baccalaureate will be at 6 p.m. Colette Dodson Honorable, a Central graduate and a member of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission will be the speaker. Graduation will be at 6 p.m. Thursday.

• Hall High: Baccalaureate will be at 4 p.m. Laurence Alexander, chancellor at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, will be the speaker. Graduation will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

• J.A. Fair High: Baccalaureate will be at 4 p.m. Joseph Cole, dean of Fine Arts and Humanities at the University of Arkansas-Pulaski Technical College, will be the speaker. Graduation will be at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

• McClellan High: Baccalaureate will be at 3 p.m. Dr. Anika Whitfield, a Little Rock podiatrist, will be the speaker. Graduation will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

• Parkview High: Baccalaureate will be at 4 p.m. Susan Altrui, a Parkview High graduate and director of the Little Rock Zoo, will be the speaker. Graduation will be at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Pulaski County Special

Four ceremonies for 794 seniors will be held today at the Jack Stephens Center at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

The schools and the times for their ceremonies are:

• Joe T. Robinson High, 9 a.m.

• Wilbur D. Mills University Studies High, 11:30 a.m.

• Maumelle High, 2 p.m.

• Sylvan Hills High, 4:30 p.m.

Lisa Academy

Lisa Academy West High School will hold graduation for 67 students at 2 p.m. May 27 at Pulaski Academy. Ouida Newton, a member of the Arkansas Board of Education, will be the speaker.

Jacksonville Lighthouse Academy

The academy will hold graduation ceremonies for 64 students at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Statehouse Convention Center.
