A 67-year-old is accused of striking a man with a machete a block away from North Little Rock's Verizon Arena, nearly severing some of the victim's fingers.

Kenneth Paul Randolph was arrested about 9:45 p.m. Tuesday at Washington Avenue and Locust Street, according to a North Little Rock police report.

An officer noted that the victim was found in a parking lot on Verizon Arena's south side with three fingers "almost completely severed."

The victim, who was reported to appear intoxicated, told authorities that he accidentally stepped on a homeless man as he walked under the Interstate 30 overpass at East Washington Avenue.

The man then awoke and swung a machete at the victim, the report states.

Authorities found Randolph with a bloody machete near him, the report said. When confronted, Randolph told police that he had been stepped on, the officer wrote.

Randolph remained at the Pulaski County jail Wednesday morning without bail, records show. His court appearance is set for today.
