The Arkansas Historic Preservation Program's "Sandwiching in History" tour will visit the Pulaski County Courthouse, 401 W. Markham St., Little Rock, at noon Friday. The courthouse incorporates two buildings: a Romanesque Revival completed in 1889 and a Beaux Arts structure completed in 1914. 'Natural Perspective'

Opera preview

Opera in the Rock singers Ronald Jensen McDaniel, baritone; Nisheedah Golden, mezzo-soprano; Kenneth Gaddie, bass; Satia Spencer, mezzo-soprano; Candice Harris, soprano; and Christopher Straw, tenor, will perform will perform excerpts from William Grant Still's 1939 English-language opera Troubled Island (with a libretto by Langston Hughes and Verna Arvey), 2 p.m. Saturday at the Hillary Rodham Clinton Children's Library, 4800 W. 10th St., Little Rock. LaSheena Gordon is the narrator; Janine Tiner is the accompanist. A question-and-answer session will follow. Admission is free. The program, titled "Fall In," includes Alfred Reed's arrangement of "Autumn Leaves" and a 50th-anniversary medley of arrangements of the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album; World War I commemorations (marches by John Philip Sousa, Fred Huffer and "Echoes From the Battlefield," a medley of period songs); a previously unpublished piece, Honor Guard March, by Claude T.
