Police identify Arkansas officer shot multiple times by gunman

UPDATE:

Authorities on Saturday identified the police officer shot in Arkansas the day before by a 44-year-old man, who was later fatally shot by other law enforcement officers who responded.

Around 7:40 p.m. Friday, officer Michael Dickinson, 31, was sent to a home on Neeley Street, where he made contact with Marvin Stair, according to Batesville Police Chief Alan Cockrill and a statement from Arkansas State Police.

Stair immediately fired a gun at Dickinson, and the 31-year-old was hit multiple times, the statement said.

After other law enforcement officers arrived, Stair reportedly stood in the doorway and pointed a rifle at them. Authorities said police then fired and struck Stair, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dickinson is still hospitalized Saturday evening with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, Cockrill said.

Stair’s body was sent to the state Crime Laboratory in Little Rock for examination, according to the statement.

State Police is investigating the officer-involved shooting.
