Rick Lee's Breeders' Cup selections and analysis

4 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies. Purse $2 million, 1 1/16 miles, fillies, 2-year-olds

SEPARATIONOFPOWERS tracked a fast pace before quickly drawing off to win the Grade I Frizette by three-widening lengths, and her speed negates what could have been a difficult post position. ALLURING STAR broke her maiden at first asking at Del Mar and returns after setting a strong pace when second best in a Grade I at Santa Anita. She is capable with kinder rating. MOONSHINE MEMORIES has won consecutive Grade I's in Southern California. The unbeaten filly has two local victories and enough speed to be in a striking position turning for home.

LADY AURELIA is unbeaten in two starts in America, and the lightly raced multiple Grade I winner does her best running at abbreviated distances. MARSHA finished a nose in front of the top selection when winning the Grade I Coolmore Nunthorpe just two back in Britain. She will race on Lasix for the first time and does prefer firm footing. DISCO PARTNER has won four-of-five races this season and his only loss came over a soggy course. He drew a favorable post and has run best for today's rider Irad Ortiz.

SKYE DIAMONDS is unbeaten in two aces at Del Mar, including a recent sprint stake, and she has won her last five races when returning after a freshening. FINEST CITY was an upset winner of this same stake in 2016, and she has won two-of-three races at Del Mar and is likely to be an overlay.

LADY ELI is an incredible mare who has won 10-of-13 races. She was beaten a nose as the favorite in the 2016 running of this stake, and she is riding a three-race winning streak. DACITA is a multiple Grade I winner who has had two big races in succession. Trainer Chad Brown is expected to have a strong Breeders' Cup showing. SENGA showed talent and class defeating 15 rivals in the Group I Prix de Diane at Chantilly. She drew inside and is treated with Lasix for the first time.

TAKAFUL ran down a heavily favored sprinter winning the Grade I Vosburgh at Belmont. The rapidly improving 3-year-old has rapid subsequent works and has consistent sprint form. DREFONG won the 2016 BC Sprint at Santa Anita. He enters this race on the heels of a decisive win in the Grade I Forego, and he is strictly the one to catch and beat. ROY H won the Santa Anita Spring Championship last month, and his ability to rate and finish may bode well in a field with plenty of zip.

WORLD APPROVAL has been a new runner since turned back to 1 mile as he has parlayed Grade I wins at Woodbine and Saratoga, while earning the fastest Beyer figures in the field. RIBCHESTER has won three Group I races in Europe this season, while competing in many of the most prestigious races. ROLY POLY is a fast filly from the powerful Euro barn of trainer Aidan O'Brien. BOLT D'ORO is unbeaten in three races, including a determined win of the Del Mar Futurity, and an exceptionally fast running of the Grade I Front Runner at Santa Anita. SOLOMINI won his career debut sprinting at Del Mar, and he finished second behind the top selection in the Front Runner, and he drew an improved post for the rematch. FREE DROP BILLY recorded a visually impressive late-running win in the Breeders' Futurity at Keeneland, and his late punch may be well served in a field with plenty of early speed.

ULYSSES has won a pair of Group I races this season in Europe and ships following a third-place finish in the prestigious Arc' de Triomphe. BEACH PATROL followed a mild upset win in the Arlington Million with a stronger victory in the Turf Classic at Belmont, which was his first start at this marathon distance.

GUN RUNNER has been dominant in three Grade I's since finishing second to Arrogate in Dubai. He possesses excellent early speed while ratable, and a wet track is the only thing that has slowed him down over the last 16 months. ARROGATE was easily best defeating the top selection in Dubai while finishing off an impressive seven-race winning streak. He has not been quite as good in three career races at Del Mar, but nevertheless, his best race is likely better than his opponents can produce. COLLECTED narrowly upset Arrogate in the Pacific Classic at Del Mar, and the Bob Baffert trainee has shown steady improvement throughout his 4-year-old campaign.
