The Florida Gators are having a rough week.
Just days after the team and Jim McElwain mutually parted ways after the Gators' third consecutive loss last weekend, the team was embarrassed again by losing 45-16 on the road to Missouri -- a fellow unranked SEC team that didn't have a conference victory until playing Florida.
Ouch.
The Gators appear to have a sense of humor about their dumpster fire of a game/week/season. They don't seem to have any illusions about where they're at right now and hilariously trolled themselves on Twitter during the second half of the Missouri game when someone @FloridaGators posted an image of Leslie Nielsen portraying Lt. Frank Drebin of Naked Gun fame with the words, "Nothing to see here," with people running from and jumping off an exploding building in the background.
Not only was it an ugly game on national TV, but it was also the second time in two weeks the Gators (3-5, 3-4 SEC) allowed more than 40 points in a loss. Last week, Georgia crushed Florida, 42-7.
He's only joking, right?
Florida Atlantic Coach Lane Kiffin used Twitter to make a joke about why his team gave up a late safety during Friday's 30-25 victory against Marshall that helped the Thundering Herd cover the point spread.
Responding to a tweet from hip-hop artist Lil Mook about conceding the safety, Kiffin said he "didn't want to cover because of too much rat poison."
Per ESPN.com's David Purdum, a Florida Atlantic spokesman said Kiffin was making a joke.
Kiffin also explained to ESPN.com's Chris Low that he was making a joke and had no knowledge of the point spread until he got back home after the game.
Great timing
One exuberant, pants-dropping Washington State fan grabbed a few minutes of national fame Saturday in the Cougars' Dads Day showdown with Stanford.
CougFan.com's Zach Anders caught the shirtless, jeans-shedding offender on video as he jumped out of the end zone to "celebrate" a Luke Falk-to-Renard Bell scoring pass late in the second quarter of Washington State's 24-21 victory over Stanford.
Given the pants dropper's dash to the white line and proximity to where Bell caught the ball, Fox's TV cameras weren't able to avoid the spectacle, thus giving a national TV audience an eyeful of some "excessive celebration."
Look who's talking
Tiger Woods believes golf officials need to make changes to the ball because players on the PGA Tour are able to hit it too far.
Speaking to Connecticut women's basketball head Coach Geno Auriemma on the Holding Court with Geno Auriemma podcast, Woods explained hitting the ball as far as golfers do is causing courses to get longer.
"We need to do something about the golf ball. I just think it's going too far, because we're having to build golf courses, if they want to have a championship venue, they've got to be 7,400 to 7,800 yards long.
"And if the game keeps progressing the way it is with technology, I think the 8,000-yard golf course is not too far away. And that's pretty scary because we don't have enough property to start designing these type of golf courses and it just makes it so much more complicated."
