Police: Man seriously hurt in shooting in downtown North Little Rock

A man was seriously injured after being shot near the banks of the Arkansas River in downtown North Little Rock over the weekend, police said.

Officers were sent to 110 Riverfront Park Drive, which is in the area of Junction Bridge and the Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum, shortly before 12:30 a.m. Saturday, according to a police report.

The victim told the dispatcher that he was under the bridge, North Little Rock police spokesman Brian Dedrick said.

Authorities found a 43-year-old man later identified as Harold Scott with a single gunshot wound in his stomach, the report said. An officer noted that a part of Scott's intestines was protruding from the wound.

Scott reportedly did not respond when police asked who shot him. He also refused to give his own name to them or to personnel at UAMS Medical Center, according to the report.

Authorities said he did not provide any information about a shooter but did object when an officer said a pipe had been found on him.

Several people who were fishing in the park on the river told police they heard a single gunshot and a car speeding off.

Scott was identified in the hospital Monday, Dedrick said. His injuries were described as serious but not life-threatening in a supplementary report filed that day.

Police have named no suspects in connection with the shooting, and no arrests had been made at the time of the report.
