Driver dies when vehicle runs off Arkansas highway, hits boulder

A 37-year-old Arkansas woman was killed late Tuesday when the vehicle she was driving ran off a state highway, hit a boulder and overturned, authorities said.

It happened about 11:10 p.m. on Arkansas 265 near Fairview Lane, which is southeast of Fayetteville in Washington County.

Arkansas State Police said Brittney Hampton was driving a 2014 Chevrolet north on the highway when she crossed the southbound lanes in a curve. The vehicle reportedly then crashed down an embankment, struck a boulder and overturned.

Hampton suffered fatal injuries. No one else was listed as being hurt.

Conditions at the time were said to be clear and dry.

The death is one of at least 432 in traffic crashes on Arkansas roads so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
