BENTON -- George West, 34 years old, was killed last night about 8 o'clock by Manuel Kerr, aged 45, in the Kerr home. This afternoon a coroner's jury exonerated Kerr, who was released from custody. Kerr was for some time separated from his wife, but recently they were reconciled. It is said that he had warned West to keep away from his house, but on returning home last night he found West there with Mrs. Kerr. Kerr shot and killed him and at once surrendered to officers. The couple have three children. West is survived by his mother and several brothers.

Nov. 21, 1967

FORT SMITH -- Grady Arthur Henderson, 43, of Fort Smith was charged with first-degree murder Monday in the stabbing here Saturday of Willie Green, 42, of Fort Smith, according to Prosecuting Attorney Wayland (Lefty) Parker of Greenwood. City Police said the incident occurred after an argument between the two men. Authorities said Green was stabbed in the chest. Preliminary hearings for Henderson will be at 10 a.m. December 5, Parker said. Funeral for Green will be by Our Funeral Service.

PINE BLUFF -- One officer has been fired and two suspended from the Pine Bluff Police Department for their parts in the beating of a motorist after a high-speed chase in October, Pine Bluff police said Friday. Fired was officer Barry Puckett, according to acting department Chief Joe Thomas. Officer James McGann was suspended for 30 days, and officer William Sanders was suspended for five days. All three have the right to appeal the actions to the Pine Bluff Civil Service Commission within 15 days, according to Capt. Sam Dockery, department spokesman.

• A West Memphis police officer has been exonerated in the June shooting death of a 12-year old boy, special prosecutors who investigated the case announced Tuesday at the Crittenden County Courthouse in Marion. H.G. Foster of Conway said after he and special prosecutor John "Jack" McQuary of Benton held a lengthy investigation and determined that DeAuntae Farrow was carrying a replica of a Smith & Wesson semi-automatic pistol when he was shot, they found insufficient evidence to charge Sgt. Erik Sammis in the boy's death.
