Basketball stars huddle for Sidney Moncrief ‘s fundraiser

Basketball star Sidney Moncrief, who played for the Razorbacks and Milwaukee Bucks, celebrated his 60th birthday Sept. 22 at the Arkansas Arts Center, but the festivities were also a kickoff fundraiser for the new Moncrief Career Professional Development Center. The event was the first of several over the weekend for the center, which will offer young adults in Little Rock crucial skills for personal and professional development.

Guests included former Little Rock high school basketball coaches Oliver Elders, Eddie Boone, Johnny Greenwood and Charles Ripley, all honored for their work changing the lives of many student athletes. The guest list also included former Razorbacks, former Milwaukee coach Del Harris of Frisco, Texas, and many family members and friends.

Live and silent auctions helped raise money for Moncrief's nonprofit, Game Changer. Items included a Hog Wild Basket with tickets to Razorbacks games and an autographed basketball and a Pro NBA Basket with autographed items by NBA players and two tickets to a Bucks game. Moncrief and his wife, Takisha, donated an NBA All-Star Weekend Experience in Los Angeles with tickets to weekend events and an All-Star game.

Guests were also invited to donate $60 for 60 years. "The best gift you can give him tonight," said emcee Donna Terrell, "is a donation to his Game Changers. You know that right now our young people need help. That's what this organization is all about."
