Robbery thwarted after Little Rock discount store employee locks doors, police say

A would-be robber brandished a rifle at a Little Rock discount store employee before that worker locked the business’s doors and called authorities, police say.

Officers with the Little Rock Police Department responded around 8:55 p.m. Saturday to an attempted robbery at the Dollar Tree at 4701 W. 65th St., according to a report.

The store’s manager, who was preparing to close for the night, went outside to make sure shopping carts had been returned inside. During the check, the employee spotted a black male with a white bandanna covering his face holding an “automatic style rifle” while leaning on a wall on the business’s east side, authorities said.

The employee told officers that as the gunman started walking toward him, he ran back into the store and locked the doors behind him.

Police said the assailant was not at the store when they arrived.

The would-be robber was described as standing about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 150 pounds. He also wore a dark-colored long-sleeve hoodie, dark pants and white gloves at the time.

No suspects were named, and no arrests had been made at the time of the report.
