Police investigating after dead man found in Arkansas hotel room

A manager found a dead man in an Arkansas hotel room Friday when she came in to clean, police say.

The property manager at Riverfront Inn at 1021 Garrison Ave. told police she went to a room to clean about 12:30 p.m. and found the body on the bathroom floor, according to a Fort Smith Police Department report.

The man was reportedly wearing nothing but a T-shirt and a single sock. She told authorities that she had not seen that man go into that room, which she had rented to a different man, a 21-year-old Evening Shade resident.

About noon, the 21-year-old gathered his belongings and put them in his car, then went back to the room to get his dog, according to the report. The manager reportedly saw him get into his car, a small-four door orange-and-silver vehicle, and drive north.

The deceased man was later identified as 58-year-old Dale Roland of Spiro, Okla., and the body has been sent to the state Crime Lab to determine the cause of death, police said.

Officers noted discoloration on his chest under each bottom rib and what appeared to be a cut on his back but reportedly saw no blood at the scene.

There were several different empty alcoholic beverage containers in the room, but no illegal substances were found, according to authorities.

No arrests had been made at the time of the report.
