Fatal shooting of Arkansas man leads to one arrest

JONESBORO -- Authorities arrested a Jonesboro man Wednesday in a fatal shooting Tuesday night in the Craighead County town.

Jonathan Johnson, 26, was arrested in the slaying of Dewayne Turner, 28, of Blytheville, said Cpl. David McDaniel, a spokesman for the Jonesboro Police Department. Johnson is being held in the Craighead County jail in Jonesboro awaiting a probable cause hearing.

Police were called to the 900 block of Logan Avenue east of the Jonesboro downtown at 7:20 p.m. Tuesday after residents reported hearing gunshots, McDaniel said. When officers arrived, they found Johnson's body lying in the street. A coroner pronounced Johnson dead at the scene, McDaniel said.

Authorities asked anyone with information about the homicide to call the Jonesboro Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division at (870) 935-6710.
