HOT SPRINGS LAKESIDE 42, HOPE 23
HOT SPRINGS -- Dupree Swanson ran 51 yards for a touchdown with 22 seconds off the clock, foreshadowing a 42-point first half for Hot Spring Lakeside in a rout of Hope at Austin Field.
Hope (0-7, 0-4 5A-South) is now winless in 18 consecutive games since tying Lakeside for the 5A-South title in 2015.
Michael James had first-quarter touchdown runs of 2 and 8 yards for a 21-0 Lakeside (4-3, 4-0) lead. Taylor Gilham passed 41 yards to Torin Davis for a score, and Swanson ran 12 yards and Richard Gaston 30 yards for touchdowns, Gaston's coming with 58 seconds before halftime.
Hope pulled within 42-14 in the third quarter on Hunter Hellums' 30-yard touchdown pass to Nate Carter, their second of the game. Their 15-yard connection late in the second quarter set the halftime score at 42-7. Hellums passed 26 yards to Carter for a third Hope touchdown with 3:10 left.
