An Arkansas woman has been arrested on a battery charge after her young child was found with significant bruising, police say.

Krystal Vandergriff, 28, of Jacksonville admitted to “whipping” her 11-month-old son “for biting her,” according to a Jacksonville Police Department report.

Vandergriff was arrested around 1:30 p.m. Friday on a charge of second-degree domestic battery, records show.

The reported battery happened in late August or early September at Vandergriff’s residence on Wilson Street in Jacksonville while the child, who had been in foster care, was placed temporarily back in her care, police said.

An examination of the child at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock found “injuries consistent with multiple blows to the buttocks and upper legs,” the report noted.

The force involved “would not be consistent with any reasonable disciplinary action and would be excessive,” police added.

Vandergriff’s name did not appear in Pulaski County jail records as of Monday morning. She has a court appearance set for Oct. 26.
