7A CENTRAL

FS Northside at NORTH LITTLE ROCK (21): With Bryant’s QB out at least until the playoffs, NLR might now be the teams to beat in 7A Central. The Charging Wildcats likely earn a No. 1 playoff seed with a win next week at Bryant and would be favored to make back-to-back state final game appearances. FS Northside totaled almost 400 yards offense in last week’s 20-point loss to Conway.

LR CATHOLIC (3) at FS Southside: Despite its 1-3 start in league play, Catholic likely secures a playoff spot with a win this week. Tradition-rich FS Southside missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade last year and is 0-4 in conference play this fall.

7A WEST

BENTONVILLE (9) at Rogers: Bentonville celebrated homecoming last week, totaling 350 yards offense (300 passing) in the first half and applied the 35-point sportsmanship rule midway through the third quarter against Springdale. The Tigers likely play Bentonville West Week 10 for the 7A West title and No. 1 playoff seed. Barring major upsets, Rogers has secured at least a No. 6 playoff seed and likely plays at North LR, Bryant or Conway in the first round. Rogers sophomore QB Hunter Loyd passed for 300 yards in last week’s 24-17 win at Van Buren.

SPRINGDALE HAR-BER (3) at Fayetteville: Preseason No. 1 Har-Ber has lost back-to-back games, including a 37-19 home loss last week to second-year program Bentonville West. Har-Ber totaled eight turnovers the past two weeks and junior QB Grant Allen was sacked nine times last Friday. Fayetteville disposed of Rogers and Rogers Heritage the past two weeks after losing four in a row.

Van Buren at SPRINGDALE (7): Springdale managed just 130 first-half yards in last week’s mercy-rule loss at Bentonville. Springdale likely headed to the playoffs with a possible first-round game at Conway, which the Bulldogs beat 19-17 in the season opener.

Rogers Heritage at BENTONVILLE WEST (28): Bentonvillle West stopped preseason-favorite Springdale Har-Ber on downs four times, forced four turnovers and tallied nine QB sacks in last week’s 39-19 win at Springdale. West RB Tyreese Smallwood was huge in the upset, rushing for 171 yards and two TDs.

GAME OF THE WEEK

NO. 1 GREENWOOD (17) at No. 5 Benton: Benton’s five-game winning streak ended last week at El Dorado, but the Panthers can get back in the conference title hunt with a win over Greenwood. Benton forced four El Dorado turnovers and led 20-17 in the third quarter but lost 27-20. It was Benton’s first loss in the past six games vs. El Dorado. Benton sophomore quarterback Peyton Hudgins completed 14 of 25 passes for 183 yards with a scoring toss to Gavin Wells. Running back Beau Brewer recorded two 1-yard TD runs. Greenwood, the top scoring offense (43.1 ppg) and defense (12.1 ppg) in Class 6A, expanded a three-TD halftime lead at Russellville last week en route to a 38-13 win, avenging a loss in last year’s Class 6A state final. Greenwood is the 6A West’s last unbeaten team, and the Bulldogs finish at Benton, at home for Sheridan and at Lake Hamilton. Senior QB and University of Arkansas commit Connor Noland completes 68 percent of his passes for 1,517 yards and 19 TDs with four interceptions. Senior running back Kenny Wood has rushed for 1,010 yards and 16 TDs. Junior receiver Peyton Holt has 55 catches for 801 yards and 12 TDs. Senior Nick Vota paces Greenwood with 92 tackles (22 for loss), while Camden Beshears and John Womack have recorded 55 stops apiece.

Ellis passed for 249 yards and two TDs, while junior playmaker Kaiden Thrailkill totaled 115 yards and two scores. El Dorado earned the playoff tiebreaker over Benton in a 27-20 home win. El Dorado limited Benton to 91 rushing yards, while QB Darius Holly passed for 237 yards and a TD with one interception. El Dorado’s defense continues to play well as the Wildcats move closer to a first-round playoff bye.

Alma at HARRISON (1): Both are among four teams tied for first place in the 5A West, and this helps decide the conference title and playoff seeding. Senior QB Garrison Jensen paces Alma with 113 carries for 634 yards and 11 TDs, and he’s passed for 1,573 yards and 16 TDs with two interceptions. Jensen returned an interceptions 99 yards as time expired in last week’s 13-point win at Clarksville. The Airedales have scored at least 35 points in four straight games. They threw toward the end zone with a chance to tie or win in the final seconds left last week against Alma. Dardanelle has won three straight in the series, but Booneville leads the all-time series 37-17. Dardanelle, winners of 41 games since 2014, has rattled off six straight victories in 2017, slaying Subiaco Academy and West Fork the past two weeks by a combined 103-0.

4A-1

Gentry at PRAIRIE GROVE (21): Prairie Grove must bounce back from its first conference setback since 2014. The Tigers turned the ball over three times, including one in the final minutes, in last week’s five-point loss at Pea Ridge. Gentry moved the ball well on its opening two possessions in last week’s 32-point loss to Shiloh Christian, but missed a field goal and turned the ball over on downs at the 23-yard line.

PEA RIDGE (32) at Berryville: Undefeated Pea Ridge has beaten Berryville seven of the past 13 seasons. Senior running back Drew Winn ran for 181 yards and three TDs in last week’s five-point win over previously unbeaten Prairie Grove. Berryville averages 12.5 ppg.

The balanced Hillbillies average 372 yards weekly (191 rushing, 181 passing). Junior QB Dawson Dietz completes 60 percent of his passes for 1,265 yards and 12 TDs, and averages 5.5 yards per carry. ELKINS (3) at Melbourne: The two highest-scoring teams in the league meet with 3-1 conference records. Common opponent Clinton beat Elkins (37 ppg) 49-28 and Melbourne (39 ppg) 39-12. Winner likely earns a first-round home playoff game. Melbourne has won six straight home games. Elkins mauled Melbourne 31-0 last year, and the Elks’ balanced offense makes the difference this year.

Green Forest at GREENLAND (3): Loser likely misses playoffs. During a 3-0 start, Greenland averaged 286 rushing yards but it has managed 121 yards per game the past month. Green Forest rushed for a season-best 303 yards two weeks ago against Yellville-Summit. Greenland won last year’s game 42-21.

3A-4

LAMAR (3) at Cedarville: Loser likely misses playoffs. Cedarville forced four Atkins turnovers and trailed 19-16 in the fourth quarter last week before losing 35-16. Lamar ran for 265 yards in a 42-7 defeat at Charleston. Lamar’s big offensive line is the difference this week.

PERRYVILLE (16) at Mansfield: Mansfield needs a win to remain in playoff contention. Mansfield won its first league game 43-7 last week at Two Rivers and rushed for a season-high 191 yards and four TDs. It was the Tigers’ first game without a turnover. Perryville’s lone loss to undefeated Mayflower and four Mustangs have rushed for 193 yards or more. Perryville’s stable of running backs wears down Mansfield.
